BENTON, Ky., (KBSI) — The Marshall County Fiscal Court has been awarded an $850,000 Community Development Block Grant to renovate the county’s senior citizens facility, officials announced.

The grant was awarded by Andy Beshear and will fund a full renovation of the senior center, which has been vacant for four years.

County officials thanked the Kentucky Department for Local Government, area legislators and the Purchase Area Development District for their support in securing the funding. The award was accepted in Frankfort.

Officials also expressed appreciation to the City of Benton for allowing seniors to use the Joe Creason Center for meetings over the past two years while the facility remained closed.

County leaders said the renovation will provide local seniors with a dedicated space once again.
