Marshall County man dies following in-custody incident

BENTON, Ky., (KBSI)— A Marshall County man has died following an in-custody incident at the Marshall County Detention Center, according to Kentucky State Police.

KSP said Kendrick Owens died Saturday, Aug. 15, at a medical facility. Autopsy and toxicology results are pending.

The incident began Thursday, Aug. 13, when the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office arrested Owens on charges of public intoxication, disorderly conduct, third-degree assault and resisting arrest.

According to KSP, Owens became unresponsive while at the Marshall County Detention Center. Deputies requested medical assistance, and Owens was taken to a local hospital before being transferred to a Louisville hospital, where he was reported in critical condition.

No other injuries were reported.

The KSP Critical Incident Response Team is continuing to investigate the incident. KSP said additional details are not being released while investigators interview witnesses and gather information.
