BENTON, Ky., (KBSI) – The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday that it has received three ballistic shields through a new grant program launched by Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman to enhance officer safety statewide.

Sheriff Hilbrecht thanked the attorney general for creating the program, which provides soft body armor and hard ballistic shields to law enforcement agencies at no cost. The shields awarded to the sheriff’s office would have cost more than $68,000 if purchased independently.

One of the shields will be issued to school resource officers at the high school, while the remaining two will be assigned to the patrol division.

“We are very appreciative for the enhanced safety for our deputies,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
