BENTON, Ky. (AP) — The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office says it receives a Law Enforcement Protection Program grant through the Kentucky Office of Homeland Security to purchase six new rifles for its Special Response Team.

Sheriff Hilbrecht says the grant helps improve deputy safety and preparedness while saving local taxpayers thousands of dollars.

The sheriff’s office says the new equipment will help deputies respond to critical incidents more effectively.

Sheriff Hilbrecht also thanks Special Deputy Bryan Dillworth for helping secure the grant, saying Dillworth spends many hours working on the application process.
