CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — The Community Counseling Center Foundation will host its sixth annual Mary Mingle 5K Run and Walk on Saturday, Dec. 5, to raise money and awareness for mental health services across Southeast Missouri.
The holiday-themed event begins at 8 a.m. at Houck Fieldhouse, with a course through downtown Cape Girardeau.
More than 500 runners and walkers registered for last year’s event, and organizers hope to increase participation this year.
“Mary Mingle has become such a fun way for our community to come together during the holidays, but there is a much bigger purpose behind it,” said Michelle Ramsey, executive director of the Community Counseling Center Foundation. “Whether someone joins us as a runner, walks with friends and family, or comes alongside us as a sponsor, they’re helping us build awareness and support for mental health right here in Southeast Missouri.”
Proceeds will support Community Counseling Center programs serving individuals across the organization’s five-county Southeast Missouri service area.
Organizers are also seeking business sponsors, with sponsorship opportunities ranging from $250 to $2,500.
This year’s event will feature an expanded Candy Cane Lane, where participating businesses can offer holiday treats and giveaways near the finish area. Businesses can also sponsor mile markers along the course through the Merry Mile program.
According to the foundation, sponsorship funds help provide therapeutic supplies, art therapy materials, group activity resources and suicide prevention training materials.
The event is open to runners and walkers of all ages and abilities. Participants are encouraged to wear festive holiday attire.
