Mayfield–Graves County airport earns designation as regional airport

MAYFIELD, Ky., (KBSI) — The Mayfield–Graves County Regional Airport has officially been designated a “Regional Airport,” Gov. Andy Beshear announced Wednesday.
Airport officials said the distinction reflects significant growth in operations and capabilities. To qualify, an airport must meet requirements including a minimum number of turbine aircraft operations, nighttime and instrument flight operations, jet fuel availability, an automated weather system, a passenger terminal and on-site aircraft maintenance.
The Mayfield–Graves County Airport Board said the facility has “far exceeded” those standards, placing it among a small group of airports statewide with the regional designation.
Airport leaders emphasized the role the facility plays in the community’s ongoing recovery and economic development.
“Mayfield is rebuilding,” the statement said, noting that expanding industries and new investors typically travel by corporate aircraft. “This facility often makes the first impression on visitors and investors alike.”
Officials also highlighted the airport’s importance during emergencies, including medical evacuations, disaster response and support for first responders.
“Whether it’s a new industrial development, the expansion of local businesses, the evacuation of a newborn or trauma patient, or serving as the gateway for recovery efforts, the Mayfield–Graves County Regional Airport is here and ready to serve our community,” the board said.
