Mayfield juvenile detained after making threats toward middle school

MAYFIELD, Ky., (KBSI) — An 11-year-old boy has been taken into custody after police say he made threats toward Mayfield Middle School early Thursday morning.

The Mayfield Police Department said officers received a call about the threats at 6:10 a.m. Police quickly identified, located, and detained the juvenile.

Following interviews and the collection of evidence, the boy was ordered into juvenile detention on a charge of second-degree terroristic threatening, a Class D felony.

Authorities said there is no ongoing threat to public safety. Mayfield Independent Schools were notified throughout the investigation, and police will continue working with school officials to ensure the safety of students and staff.
