Mayfield man arrested after crashed vehicle found

GRAVES COUNTY, Ky. (KBSI) – A Mayfield man faces a leaving the scene of an accident charge after a passerby saw a crashed vehicle in Graves County.

Stephen G. Jaco, 30, of Mayfield faces a charge of leaving the scene of an accident.

Graves County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched at 3:40 a.m. on January 10 to near the two mile marker on Hwy. 97 near the Kentucky/Tennessee state line for a one vehicle crash.

A passerby called in the crash as he drove up and saw a vehicle crashed and left partially in the roadway.

The vehicle had very severe damage. However deputies were unable to find any occupants in or around the crash site.

Deputies conducted an extensive search in the area for fear the driver and or occupants could be injured or incapacitated. However, they did not find anyone.

After running the vehicle registration, it was found that the vehicle belonged to 30-year-old Stephen G. Jaco of Mayfield.

Around 8:30 a.m., Jaco was found at his home after just arriving at that location.

Jaco confirmed he was driving the vehicle and left the scene on foot.

Numerous alcohol containers were found in and around the vehicle, according to Sheriff Jon Hayden.

On June 3, 2023 Jaco committed the same offense after crashing a vehicle at the intersection of Scott Road and Ky Hwy 339, leaving the vehicle and he scene. He was later arrested and charged with multiple offenses at that time. He is currently on a court ordered diversion.

Deputies Garrett Clark and Austin Caldwell investigated the crash.
