Mayors discuss flooding, stormwater concerns along Mississippi River

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) – Cape Girardeau Mayor Stacy Kinder, New Madrid Mayor Nick White, and Caruthersville Mayor Sue Grantham joined forces for a joint news conference Monday at 2 p.m. to discuss the pressing issues of flooding, landslides, land subsidence, and stormwater concerns along the Mississippi River.

The mayors’ discussion highlighted the region’s struggles with severe weather, including flash flooding, tornadoes and storm damage, affecting areas like Missouri, Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi and Indiana.

Flooding Response Efforts

River Level Monitoring: Cities are closely monitoring river levels, urging residents to avoid sightseeing near high water areas.
Road Closures: Several roads have been closed due to flooding and storm damage.
Flood-Fighting Supplies: Heartland cities are offering essential supplies to combat flooding.
Water Rescues: Emergency services are conducting water rescues in areas affected by flash flooding.

The conference emphasized community preparedness and resilience in the face of relentless storms and flooding.
