CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – A McClure man faces charges after police say he led them on a police chase.

Jason Michael Jungers is charged with resisting arrest/detention/stop by fleeing – creating a substantial risk of serious injury/death to any person.

A Cape Girardeau police officer was patrolling in the area of William and S. Ellis on Sunday, July 14 around 2:06 a.m. when he/she says he/she saw a black Chevrolet SUV going south on S. Pacific and the driver failed to stop at a stop sign while driving fast.

Shortly after the officer saw the vehicle, he/she saw an Alexander County, Illinois sheriff’s deputy chasing the vehicle.

The vehicles went south on S. Pacific, west on Jefferson, then north in the alley between S. Benton and S. Hanover. Then, the driver wrecked into a tree. The officer says Jungers got out of the vehicle and ran east.

The officer and the Alexander County Sheriff’s deputy began chasing him on foot. The Cape Girardeau police officer used this taser on Jungers and arrested him.

The officer says Jungers initially lied about his name. He also had a suspended driver’s license.
