PADUCAH, Ky., (KBSI) — The McCracken County Jail has recognized its 52nd inmate for earning a GED while incarcerated, officials said.

Jailer Stephen Carter said the milestone highlights the impact of education programs within the facility and their role in helping individuals prepare for life after release.

Officials said earning a GED can provide access to employment, training programs and other opportunities, while also building confidence and a sense of purpose.

Jail staff said educational programs are also linked to reduced recidivism, as individuals leave with skills that support long-term success.

In a statement, the graduate, identified as Ms. Alexander, said she completed the program after nine months of work.

“With time, effort, and determination, anything is possible,” Alexander said. “There were many times I wanted to quit, but there were people who believed in me and encouraged me to keep going.”

Officials said they will continue offering education programs aimed at helping inmates rebuild their lives.
