MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky., (KBSI) — The McCracken County Jail is warning the public about a phone scam involving false claims of inmate release.
Officials said they have received multiple reports from individuals who were contacted by someone claiming to be employed by McCracken County. The caller allegedly offered to release a loved one from jail on an ankle monitor in exchange for a credit card payment.
Authorities emphasized that the calls appear to be a scam. McCracken County does not request credit card information by phone. Jail officials said bonds are accepted in cash only and must be paid in person at the courthouse during normal business hours or at the jail after the courthouse has closed.
Anyone who receives a call of this nature is urged not to provide personal or financial information.
