McCracken County Sheriff’s Office warns how to spot scams

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky. (KBSI) – The McCracken County Sheriff’s Office wants to make sure you don’t become a scam victim.

“We can’t say it enough, that to be very skeptical. It’s unfortunate that we shouldn’t be able to trust people in today’s age, but we have to be very skeptical,” said McCracken County Sheriff Ryan Norman.

Sheriff Norman held a Facebook livestream covering the cost of scams, the effects on seniors, and how to protect yourself from from scam attempts. Scam tactics range from fake checks, warrants, and even romance scams.

Ways to avoid being scammed include talking to your friends and family as they can often help spot a scam and learning common practices for government or law enforcement agencies, as scammers often pretend to be agency officials.
