MCLEANSBORO, Ill., (KBSI) — A man wanted on a Kentucky arrest warrant was taken into custody late Dec. 10 following a welfare check in McLeansboro, police said.

According to the McLeansboro Police Department, officers were contacted at about 11:30 p.m. by a woman requesting a welfare check on a family member after learning that a man identified as Marion Brown may have been staying at the residence. Police determined Brown was wanted on an active warrant out of Caldwell County, Kentucky, for second-degree rape and unlawful transaction with a minor.

An officer responded to a residence on North Oak Street and positively identified Brown as he approached the door. Police said Brown attempted to flee through an attached garage and into the backyard after making contact with law enforcement.

Brown was pursued on foot to an area of heavy brush, where an officer deployed a department-issued Taser and took him into custody, police said.

Brown was transported to the White County Jail on the active Kentucky warrant and was also charged locally with resisting a peace officer.

Police noted Brown is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
