JEFFERSON CITY, Mo., (KBSI) – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will host a series of community open houses across the state to discuss deer management, hunting regulations and efforts to keep Missouri’s white-tailed deer healthy.

The sessions, open to hunters, landowners, wildlife watchers and the general public, will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. at locations including St. Joseph, Chillicothe, Lone Jack, Palmyra, Macon, Eugene, Eureka, Poplar Bluff, West Plains and Mt. Vernon.

Attendees will have the opportunity to talk with MDC staff about managing deer on private land, impacts of chronic wasting disease (CWD) and epizootic hemorrhagic disease (EHD), and the department’s Deer Management Assistance Program. Staff will also provide updates on MDC’s work with hunters, landowners and partners to minimize the threat of CWD.

“For generations, Missourians have worked together to protect deer and deer hunting,” said MDC Director Jason Sumners. “These open houses offer a chance to build on that foundation.”

No registration is required, and attendees may stop by anytime during the events. MDC is also accepting public comments online about deer management through Oct. 17 at Public Commenting Opportunities | Missouri Department of Conservation.
