MOUNT VERNON, Mo., (KBSI) — The Missouri Department of Conservation will host an evening nature walk, Wednesday, Oct. 6, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Mount Vernon Prairie. Registration is required.

The event, rescheduled because of weather, will feature a slow-paced walk with naturalists discussing prairie plants, seed dispersal and how root systems survive seasonal changes.

Participants can photograph native grasses and late-season asters, listen for migrating songbirds and insects, and look for seed heads and wildlife shelters.

Organizers recommend bringing sturdy walking shoes, binoculars and a camera or phone.

The prairie is located on Lawrence 1150 in Mount Vernon. Participants must register through the department’s online event system.
