MDC removes 580 pounds of debris from Perry County conservation area

PERRYVILLE, Mo., (KBSI) — Missouri Department of Conservation staff recently removed 580 pounds of litter and discarded farm equipment from the Blue Springs Branch Conservation Area in Perry County.

The cleanup effort aimed to improve fish habitat and support a critical study on the banded sculpin, a key indicator species for stream health. The study’s findings will inform research on the endangered grotto sculpin, native to Perry County.

By gathering detailed data on lifespan, diet and habitat preferences, conservationists hope to better understand and protect the grotto sculpin and its habitat.
