MDC seeks public feedback on proposed change to nonresident spring turkey bag limits

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo., (KBSI) – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is seeking input from turkey hunters and the public on a proposed regulation change that would affect nonresident spring turkey hunting.
The proposal would reduce the nonresident spring bag limit from two bearded birds to one. Nonresident landowners would still be allowed to harvest two bearded birds, provided only one is taken during the first seven days of the season.
According to MDC, public feedback in recent years has shown that many turkeys hunters value having uncrowded hunting areas. Nonresident participation in Missouri’s spring turkey season has increased, and some resident hunters have expressed concern about the impact of that growth.
MDC said reducing the nonresident bag limit would likely decrease the number of nonresident hunting trips, helping to ease crowding and hunting pressure on resident participants.
The department is accepting public comments on the proposed change through Nov. 7. Background information and a comment form are available online at Turkey Regulation Changes | Missouri Department of Conservation.
