Meet Cape PD’s new gun and ammunition detection dog; K9 Ella
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Meet Cape Girardeau Police Departments newest member, Ella!
K9 Ella is a 2-year-old German Wirehair Pointer from Greece.
She has successfully completed her initial six-week training with long-term K9 Handler, Corporal Spencer.
According to Cape PD K9 Ella will play a big role at the department as she can detect firearms and ammunition.
She is trained to detect these items in a variety of methods including article, building, locker, person, and open area searches.
She is the first firearms and ammunition detection K9 in the area.
The police department says the funding for Ella came from funding through the Cape Girardeau City Council and City Management for appropriating funds for the purchase of three new K9s.
