Memorial Day service held at the Osage Centre

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Monday members of the community came together at the Osage Centre in Cape Girardeau to honor our veterans.

Scott B. Smith, commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3838, said the community’s support on this day meant everything to him.

Monday  we’re here to remember those that can’t be here, they gave us freedom to celebrate.

“The band and the people dedicating their time to come out for veterans that have passed away was awesome you can’t beat the support that the community has,” said Smith.

Sandy Prichard, the VFW post president, said that seeing the turnout after a two-year absence, was great

“Since we haven’t had it, you know for two years because of COVID this is a great turn out so I’m very pleased,” said Prichard.

Scott says that this time is for us to remember the ones that are gone but to also celebrate those who are still alive.

“It’s also about getting together with family to celebrate those that didn’t die,” said Smith.
