CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) — Nine Southeast Missouri organizations received automated external defibrillators (AEDs) from Mercy Health Foundation Southeast during its annual AED Award Ceremony on Friday, Oct. 16.
The devices were funded primarily through proceeds from the foundation’s annual Wine & Chocolate Pairing event held earlier this year.
The following organizations received AEDs:
– Cape Girardeau Public Schools Early Childhood Center
– Christ Lutheran Church of Jacob
– Christian School for the Young Years
– FosterAdopt Connect: Hope Children’s Home
– Grace United Methodist Church
– Smiles of Hope
– St. John the Theologian Orthodox Church
– Southeast Missouri Food Bank
– Stoddard County Sheriff’s Office
During the ceremony, Scott Givens, manager of Mercy Fitness Center – Healthpoint Jackson, demonstrated how to use an AED.
AEDs are portable medical devices designed to help restore a normal heart rhythm during certain types of sudden cardiac arrest.
The foundation’s next Wine & Chocolate Pairing fundraiser is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 5, 2027, at the Cape Girardeau Country Club.
Proceeds will benefit another group of nonprofit organizations in need of AEDs.
