Mercy Hospital newborns to receive special St. Patrick’s Day onesies

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — Newborns arriving at Mercy hospital on St. Patrick’s Day will receive a special gift — a green onesie celebrating the hospital’s Irish roots.
The onesies feature a shamrock design and the phrase “Born at Mercy on St. Paddy’s Day.” The gesture honors the hospital’s foundress, Catherine McAuley, who opened the first House of Mercy in Dublin in 1827.
Mercy’s Irish heritage dates back to 1843, when the Sisters of Mercy arrived in the United States from Ireland.
They established hospitals throughout the Midwest, including Mercy Southeast.
Hospital staff are excited to share the special onesies with new parents. “Being born on a holiday is special, and with Mercy’s rich Irish heritage, what better way to celebrate a holiday and a birthday,” said Britton May, manager of obstetrics at Mercy Southeast.
