Mercy Hospital Southeast expands cardiovascular services with new surgeon

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — Mercy Hospital Southeast has expanded its cardiovascular and thoracic surgery services with the addition of Dr. Russell McElveen, a cardiothoracic surgeon.

McElveen has joined Mercy Clinic Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery — Broadway, where he will practice alongside Dr. Ulfur Gudjonsson and a team of nurse practitioners.

The clinic offers advanced care and treatment for conditions affecting the veins and arteries, heart, esophagus, lungs, trachea and aorta.

Conditions treated include abdominal aneurysms, carotid arterial stenosis, heart attacks, heart disease, peripheral artery disease and strokes.

McElveen earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Pennsylvania and completed fellowship training at the University of Mississippi.

He is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.
