Mercy named among best employers in Missouri for eighth consecutive time

ST. LOUIS — Mercy has been named one of Missouri’s best employers for the eighth consecutive time, according to a ranking based on employee surveys.

The health system announced Thursday that it was included on Forbes’ 2026 list of America’s Best Employers by State. Mercy also received the recognition in Arkansas for the sixth time.

More than 245,000 employee surveys were conducted nationwide as part of the rankings. Employees were asked about factors including workplace culture, salary, working conditions, atmosphere and professional development.

“This particular award is especially meaningful because it comes straight from caregivers who took the time to respond to surveys and share their thoughts and appreciation for the culture we’ve carefully curated here at Mercy,” Mark Moir, Mercy’s senior vice president and chief people officer, said.

Mercy said its organizationwide employee retention rate is nearly 88%. The health system employs more than 52,000 people.

According to Mercy, its 90-day employee retention rate has remained at or above 85% in every Missouri and Arkansas community since October 2025.

Organizations must have at least 500 employees to be considered for the ranking. Final scores are determined on a state-by-state basis and rely primarily on employees’ willingness to recommend their employer.

The rankings use survey results collected over a three-year period to measure sustained employee sentiment rather than short-term results.

Mercy operates hospitals, clinics and other healthcare facilities across several states, including Missouri, Arkansas, Illinois, Kansas and Oklahoma.
