Missouri approves $13.3 billion transportation improvement program

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo., (KBSI) — The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission has approved a five-year transportation improvement program worth $13.3 billion.

The program, which covers fiscal years 2026-2030, includes funding for improvements to interstates 70 and 44, as well as repairs to low-volume roads and upgrades to bridges, airports and rail crossings.

The plan allocates $9.5 billion for road and bridge construction contracts over the next five years, averaging about $1.9 billion annually.

According to Missouri Department of Transportation Director Ed Hassinger, the program is a continuation of recent investments in the state’s transportation system, made possible by increased fuel taxes and additional state and federal funding.
