JEFFERSON CITY, Mo., (KBSI) — Catherine Hanaway announced the top consumer complaints received by her office in 2025 in recognition of Consumer Protection Week.

The Missouri Attorney General’s Office received more than 104,000 consumer complaints and inquiries during the year. Of those, more than 70,400 were handled by the Consumer Complaint Unit and more than 33,600 by the No-Call Unit.

The office reported obtaining more than $61.1 million in judgments and settlements for the state and recovering more than $14.9 million in restitution for Missouri consumers.

Illegal telemarketing calls topped the list of complaints, with more than 33,600 submitted to the No-Call Unit. Telemarketers are prohibited from contacting Missourians registered on the state’s No-Call list.

Automotive and financial services complaints each totaled more than 2,400 and included issues involving vehicle titles, repair disputes, debt collection and loan servicing.

Other top complaint categories included retail and wholesale transactions, real estate and construction, communications and online services, solicitations and subscription scams, identity theft, professional services and health-related billing disputes.

The Attorney General’s Office said complaints play a key role in identifying fraud and potential violations of the Missouri Merchandising Practices Act. When mediation efforts fail, investigators review allegations and attorneys may pursue legal action.

Missourians may file a consumer complaint online at ago.mo.gov or by calling the Consumer Protection Hotline at 800-392-8222.
