Missouri gas price average eases as demand declines, AAA reports

KBSI FOX23 News at 9 p.m.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo., (KBSI) – The statewide average price for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel in Missouri is $2.88, according to AAA Missouri’s Weekend Gas Watch. That figure is one cent lower than last week and five cents lower than the same time last year.

Among the state’s major metropolitan areas, drivers in Jefferson City are paying the highest average at $2.98 per gallon, while Joplin motorists are seeing the lowest average at $2.77. Nationally, the average price is $3.19 per gallon, down one cent from last week and six cents from a year ago, AAA said.

With summer travel slowing, gasoline demand has dropped 7% nationwide over the past week. Ample crude oil supply continues to outpace demand, and the seasonal shift to less expensive winter-blend gasoline is beginning. Both factors could continue to put downward pressure on pump prices in the coming weeks.

Prices were current as of 3:41 a.m. Friday. Motorists can track gas prices, map routes, find discounts, locate parking, book hotels, and request roadside assistance with the free AAA mobile app, available for iPhone, iPad and Android. More information is available at AAA.com/mobile.

AAA also offers its Approved Auto Repair program, which helps motorists identify reputable shops that meet professional standards for training, equipment, cleanliness, and customer service.
