JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KBSI) — Missouri drivers are seeing slightly lower gas prices this week, according to AAA Missouri.

AAA says the statewide average for regular unleaded fuel is $4.10 per gallon as of Thursday, May 28. That is down 10 cents from last week but still $1.24 higher than the same time last year.

Among Missouri metro areas surveyed, drivers in Jefferson City are paying the highest average price at $4.19 per gallon. Joplin drivers are paying the lowest average at $3.85 per gallon.

AAA says the national average for regular gasoline is $4.42 per gallon, down 14 cents from last week.

According to AAA, crude oil prices declined this week amid reports of peace talks involving Iran, though officials say uncertainty in the Middle East could continue affecting prices through the summer driving season.

AAA spokesperson Carly McKinnis says oil prices dropping below $100 a barrel is encouraging for drivers, but prices are not expected to fall quickly because global supply concerns remain ongoing.
