Missouri gas prices fall, but Cape Girardeau remains highest in state survey

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — Missouri drivers are seeing modest relief at the pump, although average prices remain significantly higher than a year ago.

The statewide average for regular unleaded gasoline fell 8 cents over the past week to $3.73 per gallon, according to AAA’s Missouri Weekend Gas Watch. That is 87 cents higher than the average recorded at this time last year.

Among the Missouri metropolitan areas surveyed, Cape Girardeau had the highest average price at $3.90 per gallon. Joplin had the lowest at $3.50.

Missouri ranked as the nation’s 12th-least-expensive gasoline market.

The national average fell 3 cents to $4.06 per gallon. AAA attributed the decrease partly to lower crude oil prices and reduced seasonal travel as schools and universities begin fall semesters.

“We’re seeing prices ease by just a few cents this week — it’s relief, but not as much as drivers might hope for yet,” AAA spokeswoman Carly McKinnis said.

West Texas Intermediate crude oil settled at $75.22 per barrel Wednesday, down 55 cents.
