Missouri Governor attends Sikeston Memorial Day Service

SIKESTON, Mo. (KBSI) – Missouri’s Governor Mike Kehoe gives recognition to fallen heroes on Memorial Day.

A Memorial Day service was held at Sikeston’s Veterans Park.

The service started at 10:30 am on Monday May 26, 2025, and lasted about an hour.

Community members, city and government officials and veterans were all in attendance for the service.

John 15:13 tells us that none have greater love than this that they would lay down their life for his friends, our veterans exemplify just this” says Kehoe.

Governor Kehoe goes on to give thanks to those who have served and thanked first responders for recent storm recovery efforts.

In his speech he put emphasis on the importance of educating the younger generation on the meaning behind serving the country and honoring those who have.

James Yetter is a retired Senior Master Seargeant of the United States Air Force. Not only is Yetter a veteran but he is a gold start family member, meaning he lost an immediate family member who served in the United States Armed Forces.

“My son was in the night stalkers; he has passed and a lot of friendships with the night stalkers came out from his passing and we’re still very good friends today” says Yetter.

Yetter will be driving a 2019 Chevy Corvette Grand Sport to Fort Cambell that was decorated and put on display two years ago and it honors all the fallen heroes of the 160th Aviation of the United States Army Night Stalkers.

Today we’re honoring the fallen military members and I’m on my way to Fort Campbell to honor the 160th aviation division of the night stalkers united states army” says Yetter.

Yetter shares why today holds big meaning to him…

“My father was in the army, so Memorial Day was always a very special day and to lose my son in the United States army has become even more important to celebrate Memorial Day says Yetter.
