Missouri patrol urges football fans to plan ahead for I-70 construction

MISSOURI (KBSI) – The Missouri State Highway Patrol is encouraging football fans to plan ahead and allow extra travel time as construction continues along Interstate 70.

Work to improve the interstate and add a third lane in each direction is underway across Missouri. The patrol said increased game-day traffic could create additional delays before and after football games.

Work zones may include narrow lanes, reduced speed limits and changing or unusual traffic patterns.

Motorists are encouraged to:

Leave early and allow additional travel time.
Expect reduced speeds and follow posted limits.
Remain alert while traveling through work zones.
Check the Missouri Department of Transportation’s Traveler Information Map for current construction information.
Avoid distractions and arrange for a sober driver.

Drivers should also expect heavier traffic in Columbia as game-day travel overlaps with evening commuters. The patrol is reminding motorists to watch for pedestrians in crosswalks.

All Memorial Stadium gates, including the new north end zone addition, will be open for entry. The Missouri State Highway Patrol, University of Missouri Police Department, Boone County Sheriff’s Office and other agencies will be available to assist fans.

Officials are also warning visitors about a dangerous heat index. Free water-filling stations will be available at several locations around the stadium.
