Missouri ranks top two for most firework sales nationwide
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – According to local firework stands business is booming! Missouri ranking at one of the biggest states this year for firework sales.
With Independence Day just around the corner and firework season in full swing, Missouri firework sellers say they’re as busy as ever.
Matt Rolwing, Owner of Stump Buster fireworks say’s July 2cd and 3rd are their biggest day for firework sales. He shares that even with weather challenges and high gas prices sales have been steady.
“Yes, sales have started to pick up. Honestly, I was a little nervous with all the water and the rain that we had coming in. The flooding even the last couple of weeks. Really nervous, but it started to pick up and it’s really nice” says Rolwing. “With it being our fifth year, we’ve start having a lot of returning customers coming back, coming in to enjoy their time and know that we have some good quality product. So, it’s starting to pick up and we’re really looking forward to the next couple of days picking up really big advice. If you haven’t gotten your fireworks yet, you really want to try to get that done before July 2nd.”
Matt Schulz is the Chief Consumer finance analyst for Lending Tree. He shares that data shows that even with economic challenges hitting the state Missouri ranks at the top for firework sales.
“Missourians definitely love their fireworks and the point that we did show that Missouri ranks number two nationally in fireworks imports per resident, and only South Dakota had more and that total number in 2025 was about 73 million more dollars’ worth of fireworks. So, it’s an awful lot of money spent on fireworks. So, it’s clearly a big deal in Missouri” says Schultz.
Schulz shares that he believes this Fourth of July has seen more sales because its Americas 25oth birthday this year sparking bigger celebration and bigger need for fireworks.
Rolwing says through flooding, storms, and now the heat their firework stand will continue to be open in Cape Girardeau.
