JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KBSI) – The Missouri Department of Commerce and Insurance (DCI) has released final health insurance rates for the state’s 2026 individual and small group markets and is encouraging Missourians to review their coverage options carefully ahead of open enrollment.
“Missouri continues to have a competitive market, meaning consumers will have meaningful choices for their health coverage,” said DCI Director Angela Nelson. “Although rates are projected to rise next year, we want Missourians to know we are here to help them make informed decisions that fit their needs and budgets.”
Every county in Missouri will have at least two carriers offering individual health insurance plans in 2026, with most counties offering four or more. Small group plans for businesses with two to 50 employees will also continue to offer a variety of options.

The department noted that enhanced advance premium tax credits—currently helping many Missourians lower monthly premiums—are set to expire at the end of 2025 unless extended by Congress. Nelson urged consumers to plan accordingly.
“Health insurance is too important to go without,” Nelson said. “It ensures access to medical care when you need it most and protects you financially in a crisis.”
Open enrollment for 2026 coverage begins Nov. 1, 2025. To start coverage by Jan. 1, 2026, consumers must enroll or change plans by Dec. 15, 2025. Enrollment remains open through Jan. 15, 2026, with coverage beginning Feb. 1 for those who enroll after Dec. 15.
The DCI advised Missourians to:
Compare plans carefully, including premiums, deductibles, and out-of-pocket costs.
Confirm their preferred doctors and hospitals are in-network.
Be cautious of advertisements for “low-cost” or “no-cost” health plans and verify legitimacy.
Seek free, unbiased help from certified navigators and counselors through the Cover Missouri Coalition (FindLocalHelp.CoverMissouri.org, 1-800-466-3213).
DCI also reminded consumers to protect their personal information when enrolling, use strong passwords, and verify the credentials of anyone assisting with their application.
