JEFFERSON CITY, Mo., (KBSI) — More than 10,000 Missouri school buses passed their annual inspections, according to results released Wednesday by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The patrol’s Driver and Vehicle Safety Division inspected 11,371 school buses as part of its 2026 annual school bus inspection program.
Of those inspected, 10,239 buses were rated approved on their initial inspection. Another 849 buses were found to have defects requiring repairs within 10 days, while 283 buses were placed out of service until repairs could be completed and the vehicles passed a reinspection.
The patrol also recognized 287 school districts with its 2026 Total Fleet Excellence Award. A total of 6,148 buses in those districts are eligible to display the award sticker during the 2025-26 school year.
“Through the unified effort of Missouri State Highway Patrol personnel and pupil transportation professionals statewide, the successful inspection of over 11,000 school buses occurred in accordance with Missouri revised state statutes,” Missouri State Highway Patrol Superintendent Col. Michael A. Turner said in a statement.
The annual inspections are designed to ensure school buses meet state safety standards before transporting students.
Individual school district inspection results are available on the Missouri State Highway Patrol website.
