CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) – Missouri’s legislators are reviewing senate bill 594 which would require Missouri school districts and charter schools to display the ten commandments in every classroom.

The display would have to be a poster or framed document at least 11 inches by 14 inches.

FOX23 reached out to viewers through the NOW local news app to hear your responses to the bill.

Some people voiced strong support for the bill.

“I do support the ten commandments in schools, whether you want to look at it from a religious, a historical or morality, document, either any of those ways, it would be good for society, I feel,” Kathy said.

“As a Christian person, I am in support of them showing the ten commandments in schools. I think it’s a very good thing for kids to know and to live their lives by because it basically helps you be a better person,” Ty said.

One man shared his opposition to the bill.

“I strongly disagree with this,” Bracey said. “Religion should not be in the classroom. This is what private schools are for.”

The bill does face legal challenges. A similar bill was passed in Louisiana but was struck down in November 2024 by a federal judge who ruled it unconstitutional.
