Missouri State Highway Patrol completes annual school bus inspections

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo., (KBSI) — The Missouri State Highway Patrol has completed its annual school bus inspection program, with 10,144 buses rated as “approved” upon initial inspection.

A total of 799 buses were rated as “defective” and 312 were taken out of service due to safety issues.

The patrol inspected 11,255 buses and awarded 297 school districts with the Total Fleet Excellence award for 2025.

“Through this inspection program, we work with schools and transportation companies to ensure the safe transportation of Missouri’s schoolchildren,” said Col. Michael A. Turner, patrol superintendent.
