Missouri State Highway Patrol reports six deaths over Labor Day weekend

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo., (KBSI) — The Missouri State Highway Patrol said five people died in traffic crashes and one person drowned during the 2025 Labor Day holiday weekend.
The counting period began at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, and ended at 11:59 p.m. Monday, Sept. 1.
Traffic enforcement statistics (preliminary):
222 crashes
104 injuries
5 fatalities
100 DWI arrests
14 drug arrests
Boating enforcement statistics (preliminary):
3 crashes
4 injuries
0 fatalities
9 boating while intoxicated arrests
1 drowning
The drowning occurred Aug. 30 at Lake of the Ozarks’ Public Beach Two in Camden County. Authorities said a 19-year-old man from Glenwood, Illinois, entered the water by unknown means and did not resurface.
Traffic fatalities
One traffic fatality was reported in each of Troops A (Lee’s Summit), C (Weldon Spring), D (Springfield), E (Poplar Bluff) and G (Willow Springs).
Aug. 30: A 52-year-old Clarkton man died when his motorcycle ran off a farm road east of Clarkton in New Madrid County. He was not wearing a helmet. In Clay County, a 48-year-old Excelsior Springs woman was struck and killed while walking along Missouri 291.
Aug. 31: A 46-year-old Bunker man died after his vehicle overturned on Missouri 72 in Reynolds County. He was not wearing a seat belt. In St. Charles County, a 42-year-old man was killed crossing Missouri 364 when struck by a vehicle. The 23-year-old driver was injured.
Sept. 1: A 16-year-old boy died when the UTV he was driving overturned on private property in McDonald County. Authorities said he was not using a safety device.
The Highway Patrol said fatality totals may change if additional deaths are reported or if some are later determined to be caused by medical conditions.
