Missouri State Troopers urge drivers to pay attention to weather conditions

CAPE GIRARDEAU Mo. (KBSI) – The Missouri State Highway Patrol suggests motorists to be extra vigilant when driving in inclement weather.

With Missouri’s weather forecast indicating snow and snow showers, it is advised travelers slow down on roadways and proceed with caution.

Sgt Clark Parrott, with The Missouri State Highway Patrol says, “Make sure you’ve got plenty of fluid in the washer reservoir. Make sure your tires are prepared for some type of slick conditions.”

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 51 people were killed and about 2-thousand people were inured in more than 75-hundred crashes. Those crashes had conditions of snow, hail, or freezing temperatures.
To prevent these accidents, law enforcement will be present on the road.

“When winter weather hits, we have just about every available officer we can out.” Said Parrot.

Law enforcement also suggest downloading the MoDOT travel app.

According to Parrott, “They [MoDOT] keep it constantly updated with information with the Highway Patrol and their snowplow drivers.  About road conditions throughout the state.”

Please remember to buckle up, pay attention, be courteous, and obey all traffic laws. When weather conditions make driving hazardous, drive only when absolutely necessary.
