Missouri Treasurer to discuss pension divestment from foreign adversaries

JACKSON, Mo., (KBSI) — Missouri State Treasurer Vivek Malek will hold a press conference with State Representative Barry Hovis on Friday, April 11, 2025, to discuss legislative efforts to require Missouri’s public pension systems to divest from certain foreign adversaries, including China.

Date: Friday, April 11, 2025
Time: 1:00 p.m.
Location: Outside the Cape Girardeau County Courthouse, 100 Court Street, Jackson, MO 63755
Media: Open; contact Kristi Nitsch at 573-204-2494 for on-site arrangements

In December 2023, the Missouri State Employees Retirement System (MOSERS) divested from Chinese entities at Treasurer Malek’s recommendation, becoming one of the first public pension systems in the nation to do so.

Malek continues to advocate for statewide adoption of similar policies to protect public employees’ retirement funds and align Missouri with growing national concern over investment ties to foreign adversaries.
