Missourians who lost SNAP benefits due to May 25-26 storms can apply for replacement benefits

(KBSI) – Missourians who lost food purchased with their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits due to severe storms on May 25-26 in Barry, Bollinger, Butler, Carter, New Madrid, Ripley, Scott and Stoddard counties will now have until June 27 to request replacement benefits to the Family Support Division.
This extension comes after the United States Department of Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Service approved the request from the Department of Social Services to waive the 10-day reporting requirement for replacement benefits.
Families who live outside of the counties mentioned, but who experienced a household misfortune due to the storms on May 25-26 must report their loss within the standard 10 days. That means they have until June 7 to request replacement benefits.
“It is critical that we use all tools available to support families who have been impacted by these severe storms,” said Kim Evans, Family Support Division Director, Department of Social Services. “Our teams have been on the ground working to help those impacted, and we will work as quickly as we can to connect affected families with necessary services.”
To report a loss and begin the process of receiving replacement benefits,
The SNAP household or an authorized representative must complete the Replacement Request online or complete and return the Replacement Request Form by June 27.
Completed forms can be submitted to the Family Support Division through the upload portal, faxing it to (573) 526-9400 or by dropping it off or mailing it to any local FSD office.
Electricity being disconnected by the power company due to non-payment of the utility bill is not considered a household misfortune/disaster.
