MoDOT plans traffic signal replacements in Cape Girardeau and Dutchtown

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — The Missouri Department of Transportation plans to replace aging traffic signals at two intersections in Cape Girardeau County.

The projects are planned for the intersections of Route 25 and Route 74/A in Dutchtown and U.S. Route 61 and Cape Rock Drive in Cape Girardeau.

In Dutchtown, MoDOT plans to replace the existing span-wire signals with mast arms and new signal heads. The project would also extend the northbound right-turn lane on Route 25 and add dedicated through and left-turn lanes for eastbound and westbound Route 74 traffic.

The Dutchtown project is tentatively scheduled to be awarded in fiscal 2030. Construction is expected to last about six months and include staged work with brief, intermittent closures.

At U.S. 61 and Cape Rock Drive, MoDOT plans to replace the signals and widen part of the intersection to add an island for right-turn traffic. The project would also modify the U.S. 61 median to lengthen the southbound left-turn lane and provide additional vehicle storage.

That project is tentatively scheduled to be awarded in March 2027, with construction potentially beginning in May 2027. Work is expected to last about three months, weather permitting. Drivers should anticipate lane closures, flaggers and work-zone signage.
