MoDOT, Safe Communities of Cape Girardeau hosting car seat safety check events
MISSOURI (KBSI) – The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is partnering with Safe Communities of Cape Girardeau to host a car seat safety event.
Most parents, grandparents, or other family members have never been shown the correct way of installing a car seat.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), almost 46% of car seats and booster seats are used incorrectly.
Child Passenger Safety Week is September 17-23, 2023.
MoDOT, Cape Girardeau Safe Communities along with other community safety partners will host free Car Seat Check Events throughout southeast and south-central Missouri.
Parents and family members can pull up at designated areas to have their car seat checked for correct installation.
Safety check locations will be in Cape Girardeau, Farmington, Houston, Jackson, Kennett, Mountain Grove, Perryville, Poplar Bluff and West Plains.
Emily Church Safe Communities Coordinator says “We have permanent stations here in Cape Girardeau Jackson fire, Cape Fire City of Jackson police department, city of Cape police department and Fruitland fire department. Are all inspection stations within Cape County. So you can come in any day of the week to make sure your car seat is installed correctly.”
Several car seat safety check events will be held on September 23 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.
