MoDOT unveils $13.3 billion transportation improvement program

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KBSI) — The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission has approved the state’s next five-year Transportation Improvement Program. This program in total will be $13.3 billion for road and bridge work from 2026 through 2030.

According to Eric Schroeter, deputy director of the Missouri Department of Transportation, the plan covers about 1,300 projects statewide, ranging from major interstate improvements on I-70 and I-44 to local bridge replacements and road resurfacing.

Schroeter said about 80% of the funding will go towards maintaining Missouri’s existing roads, including the seventh largest highway system in the nation, while also supporting safety upgrades like guardrails and better signage.

“This program puts Missourians to work and makes long term improvements to our transportation system,” Schroeter says, stating that safety remains a top priority to help reduce traffic deaths across the state.

He always wants to remind all drivers of the importance of being aware of your surroundings, when driving around these construction sites.
