CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — Here are road conditions in the FOX23 region on Jan. 25, 2026.

SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

Missouri Department of Transportation said many roads across the state remained snow-covered as of 9:45 a.m. Sunday.

MoDOT said crews are working to clear roadways as quickly and safely as possible.

Officials urged motorists to avoid unnecessary travel and to use caution if driving is required, advising drivers to slow down and adjust for conditions.

Motorists are encouraged to check road conditions before traveling using MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map.

SOUTHERN ILLINOIS

Illinois Department of Transportation said hazardous road conditions were reported statewide as of 8 a.m. Sunday due to Winter Storm Fern.

IDOT officials urged motorists to avoid travel unless necessary and encouraged residents to stay home while crews continue snow and ice removal efforts.

Crews are expected to remain on the roads through the weekend and into the upcoming workweek, but officials cautioned that extreme conditions would require additional time to fully clear roadways.

Drivers are asked to remain patient and check current road conditions before traveling using IDOT’s online travel information system.

WESTERN KENTUCKY

A Kentucky State Police trooper is urging motorists to stay off the roads as conditions continue to deteriorate following an increase in crashes and motorist assists.

Trooper Burgess said call volume rose steadily, with six motorist assists reported in a two-hour period.

The trooper also noted that McCracken County Emergency Management temporarily shut down Interstate 24 westbound near the 5-mile marker due to a commercial vehicle crash. The roadway has since reopened.

Authorities warned that road conditions are expected to worsen as temperatures drop, darkness sets in and additional precipitation moves into the area. Motorists are strongly encouraged to remain at home unless travel is absolutely necessary.
