More than 600 residents without power in Western Kentucky

LYON COUNTY, Ky. (KBSI) – Crews have been working to restore power throughout parts of Western Kentucky after storms swept through the region.

According to Lyon County Emergency Management Director Brandon Vagts the Lyon County Convention Center is currently being utilized as a cooling center after hundreds of residents lost power.

“At like 8:30 pm last night a thunderstorm came through and knocked down a bunch of trees” says Vagts. “Luckily, no structures were damaged just knocked down a bunch of power lines.” “We had a lot of residents without power and there was another line of storms that was going to come through. I think it came through at around 3:00 am this morning. So that was going to delay, the power companies getting the power back on and with the heat index getting up to 115 degrees today, we needed to have a spot for our residents to come out here and, have a place to cool off if they need to do. “

According to reports more than 600 residents throughout the county were without power for around 14 hours. Crews are continuing to repair lines and have several roads blocked off as they work.

All but a handful of people have had their power restored as of 12:00 pm on Monday July 27, 2026, but Vagts shares they keep the cooling center open through tomorrow.
