‘More than a handful’ of students involved in vandalism at Mt. Vernon Township High School
MT. VERNON, Ill. (KBSI) – School will be back in session Thursday after Mt. Vernon Township High School took an e-learning day Wednesday due to a senior prank in the building.
Mt. Vernon Superintendent Melanie Andrews says a custodian called her at 4:30 a.m. about a photo that was seen on Snapchat of the vandalism.
She got to the school about 5:30 a.m. and saw hallways littered with toilet paper and Post-it notes. She says the floor had lotion and baby oil spread on it. However, there was no permanent damage.
The school posted on its Facebook page that staff members should report as scheduled.
AP testing scheduled for the afternoon went on as scheduled. However, the Senior Send off was canceled.
School authorities are reviewing camera video. Andrews says “more than a handful” of students were involved.
Anyone with knowledge about who is responsible for the vandalism is asked to notify school administration.
