Mosquitoes test positive for West Nile Virus in southern IL
ULLIN, Ill. (KBSI) – Health departments throughout Illinois have been doing tests on mosquitoes. The Southern Seven Health Department confirmed three positive tests for the West Nile Virus (WNV).
Shawna Rhine, the Community Outreach Coordinator at Southern Seven Health Department, gives three main tips on how to stay clear of the West Nile Virus.
“Well, we encourage people to follow the three R’s and that is reduce, repel, and report,” said Rhine. “Reduce means to make sure that you’re doing things within your home environment to reduce mosquitoes from laying their eggs and from other mosquitoes coming about so make sure you are getting rid of any standing water watching to make sure that you yourself are staying in an area which is less common for mosquitoes you know maybe not being out in the woods as much and so on but basically just making sure you reduce that water impact.”
Rhine also advices to make sure you have your repellent during the warmer months.
