Mother dog, puppies abandoned outside Cape Girardeau animal shelter

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — Southeast Missouri Pets is seeking information after a mother dog and her puppies were abandoned outside the organization’s facility early Wednesday morning.

According to the animal rescue, the dogs were left in a green tote outside the shelter at approximately 2 a.m. Staff discovered the animals after the person responsible had left the area.

The rescue organization said the mother dog and her puppies are safe and receiving care.

Southeast Missouri Pets noted that animal abandonment is illegal and can create safety concerns for the animals, shelter staff and other pets in their care. The organization also said it is currently operating over capacity.

Officials are asking anyone with information about the abandonment to contact the shelter.

The organization is also seeking community support through fostering, donations and sharing information about the animals.
