Motorcycle passenger airlifted after crash in Graves County

GRAVES COUNTY, Ky., (KBSI) – Graves County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a two-vehicle injury crash Monday afternoon at the intersection of KY 129 and KY 94 in Pilot Oak.

According to the Graves County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened around 4:45 p.m. on May 25.

Investigators said Steven R. Vaughn, 43, of Dukedom, was driving a 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage northbound on KY 129 when he attempted to turn left onto KY 94 West and pulled into the path of a southbound 2009 Harley-Davidson motorcycle operated by William Counsell, 65, of Union City, Tennessee.

Authorities said Counsell braked and swerved left in an attempt to avoid the collision, but the motorcycle struck the vehicle.

A passenger on the motorcycle, Laronda Campbell, 52, of Hornbeak, Tennessee, was ejected during the crash.

Counsell was taken by Mayfield-Graves County EMS to Jackson Purchase Medical Center with minor injuries. Campbell was flown by Air Evac to a Nashville-area hospital for treatment of injuries.

Vaughn reported no injuries at the scene.

Deputy Zac Smith investigated the crash with assistance from Sgt. Garret Clark, Deputy Austin Caldwell, Mayfield-Graves County EMS, Air Evac, the Cuba Volunteer Fire Department and the Sedalia Volunteer Fire Department.
