Mount Vernon man convicted of murder

MOUNT VERNON, Ill., (KBSI) — Eddie Bennett, 68, of Mount Vernon, has been convicted of first-degree murder and murder involving mob action in connection with the death of Patrick Williamson.

The conviction, handed down by a jury in Jefferson County Second Judicial Circuit Court on June 25, 2025, follows a thorough investigation into Williamson’s tragic death.

Bennett is scheduled to be sentenced on August 28, 2025.

Mt. Vernon Chief of Police Robert Brands praised the dedication of officers and investigators involved in the case, as well as the commitment of Jefferson County State’s Attorney Sean Featherstun and Assistant State’s Attorney Blake Jennings.

The conviction brings justice to Williamson’s family and ensures Bennett is held accountable for his actions, Brands said.
